Products description
Bulk Chicken Wire
A chicken wire fencing is a fence designed to contain chickens and deter predators. Typical applications include
Creating a removable chicken gathering fence for chicken grazing (rotational grazing)
Creating a permanent, all-metal chicken fence to enclose chickens and deter predators
Build your own chicken coop with our metal chicken fence (popular)
A typical permanent all-metal chicken fence includes four sides and a top. This prevents climbing and flying predators from reaching your chickens. A chicken fence kit is a series of fences, fence posts, accessories and hardware for building complete fences to raise chickens from scratch (pun intended).
Our chicken fences are not electric and will not fail due to disconnected wires, dead batteries, etc. Depending on the options you choose, they are designed to keep out many different animals.
Each type of chicken fence has over 1000 fence kits, combinations and options.
The purpose of this page is to help you compare options in order to select the best chicken fence for your project.

A chicken wire fencing with four sides and a top. This type of chicken fence has four sides and a top and is designed to deter all types of predators. chicken wire fencing with a top can be made of poly (light, inexpensive) or all metal with a one-inch opening size. An additional smaller opening size of 1/2x1/2 or 1/4x1/4 metal skirt can be added.
Poly fence or poly fence with chewing barrier base. Chickens do not chew and poly fencing has the features that make it an excellent chicken fence. Poly fencing has no memory (if it is struck, it returns to its original shape, unlike metal that stays bent once it is bent). Poly Chicken Fence is also lightweight, very strong and inexpensive. It is easy to move. Another popular type of chicken fence is the poly chicken fence, which comes with a smaller opening size (1/2x1/2 or 1/4x1/4) steel chewing barrier base to exclude chewing predators. This configuration is usually permanent and is a good side chicken fencing area for closing the coop at night.

There are many different chicken fencing options on the market. If you need to create fences to keep your chickens in a certain area, our fences are for you.
Our chicken fence is effective, but virtually invisible from a distance. It is designed to be as invisible as possible, blending in with your existing landscape.
Completely non-electric, no wires to break, no parts to fail over time. A true physical barrier that allows chickens to enter.
Our chicken fences are very customizable. Choose the right strength, height, chew resistance, opening size, etc. for your project. This includes chicken fence gates from 3 feet wide to 24 feet wide, thicker corner/end posts (if applicable), tensioning for your chicken fence, and more.
Renting a room? Need a temporary chicken fence or removable chicken fence for grazing? All of our chicken fences with grounding sleeves can be permanently installed or removed as needed. Use the included locking set screws to loosen our fence posts.
We make installation of our chicken fences quick and easy. Regular posts and gates use ground sleeves, corner posts and driveway gates use large ground sleeves and do not require a concrete foundation. Posts are secured with locking set screws inside each sleeve. Installing large areas takes a fraction of the time of traditional fencing. Most customers install this type of fence on their own without a contractor.
Chicken Fence FAQ
What is the best chicken fence?
The best chicken fences are strong enough to keep chickens out and predators in. Permanent chicken fences are usually made of one inch or less of metal, while removable chicken fences are usually made of polypropylene, which is a type of plastic. Polyethylene chicken fences are lighter and easier to move than heavier, all-metal chicken fences.
How do you build a chicken fence?
Chicken fences are made from support posts, rolls of fencing material and hardware. The grounding sleeve is first driven into the ground with a sledgehammer, then the posts are slid into the grounding sleeve and secured with locking set screws. The fencing material can be attached directly to the post with fence ties or to a tension cable that provides additional support. Chicken fencing can be buried at the bottom of the fence or overlapped and staked to the ground to prevent predators from pushing up under the fence or digging under the fence.
What is the easiest chicken fence to install?
The easiest permanent chicken fence to install uses a grounding sleeve. The grounding sleeve is first driven into the ground with a sledgehammer, then the posts are slid into the grounding sleeve and secured with locking set screws. These posts can be permanent or removable. Chicken fences with tensioning are not removable. Chicken fences without overlap are easier to remove than chicken fences with overlap.
How tall does a chicken fence need to be?
Chicken wire fencing need to be 4 to 7 1/2 feet tall. The height of this chicken fence depends on different factors, such as the length of the fence and the type of animals you are trying to keep out - or whether you only keep chickens.
4 feet high for areas where the customer is rearing chickens
Most permanent chicken fences are 6 to 7 1/2 feet tall, with or without a top.
How sturdy does a chicken fence need to be?
Depending on your application, chicken fences need to have a breaking strength of 400 pounds to 950 pounds or more. The strength of a chicken fence is determined by taking a one foot by one foot sample of fence material and pulling it onto a calibrated machine with clamps that run along the entire top and bottom of the sample until it breaks. Generally, the higher the fracture strength, the better the protection that may or may not be required. In general.
For grazing areas, customers typically use our 700 poly. which is a good balance between economy and strength. the 1100 poly is similar, but more expensive.
For permanent grazing areas around chicken coops, the most popular mesh is 1x1 metal mesh. It is strong, is metal and will deter most animals.
For chicken coops, the most popular chicken fence to install on your coop is 1/2x1/2 black PVC coated steel mesh.
The best way to keep snakes out of the chicken area is 1/4x1/4 - this will keep out almost every snake.
What is chicken or bird netting?
Chicken or bird netting is commonly used by customers who keep wild birds or other birds of prey. This is a larger opening size net, usually knotted nylon. It is usually hung on top of a metal-sided fence. The large opening size is not helpful to predators and this type of net is mainly used to keep birds from flying out.
How much does chicken fencing cost?
The price of chicken fencing ranges from $1 per foot to $10 per foot or more, depending on the width and type of chicken fence and if you purchase only chicken fence rolls or complete chicken fence kits. A roll of polypropylene chicken fencing will cost less than all metal chicken fencing.
