Side Slope Protection Net
Slope Protection Netting
Slope protection netting is composed of heavy metal wire mesh and reinforced metal wire peripheral ropes connecting the edges of the mesh plate. Slope protection netting is adapted to the terrain and can be designed to prevent shallow sliding, deformation and rock shedding, thereby protecting the lives and property below.
Rock Netting Slope Protection Acting
The use of slope protection netting is one of the most widely adopted rockfall mitigation methods worldwide, particularly for controlling high frequency, low amplitude rockfalls on small to medium-sized slopes. The type of net or nets used and the support configuration depend on the desired outcome of the mitigation as well as the physical characteristics of the site and the rockfall event.
Advantages of Rockfall Netting
Some main applications of slope protection netting
Slope protection netting is mainly used to prevent falling rocks from falling onto roads and railways. Cover slope protection netting on slopes and rocks, and fix them with soil nails and rock nails, so that the rocks will roll down to the foot of the slope in the slope protection netting instead of directly on the road, which can ensure the safety of pedestrians and passengers. Slope protection netting can also prevent various slope geological disasters, such as slope erosion, debris flow, landslides, flying rocks, avalanches, etc. while enhancing the overall stability of the slope.
Slope protection netting installation method
The use of slope protection netting is one of the most widely used rockfall mitigation methods in the world, especially for controlling high-frequency and low-intensity rockfall on small and medium-sized slopes. There are two main installation methods for slope protection netting: hanging installation and anchoring installation.
Overhang installation
Supported by a bearing rope fixed on the leading edge of the slope. Slope protection netting covers the slope in a way that maximizes slope contact. The slope is allowed to erode behind the grid layer, and the grid layer acts as a barrier to control the debris from moving down the slope, usually entering the catchment ditch at the bottom of the mountain.
The most important material parameters to be considered when designing are unit weight, tensile strength and puncture strength. As the need to control larger fragments increases, so does the need to install slope protection netting.
The slope protection netting of overhang installation has the following characteristics
● Low material cost
● Low installation cost
● Free drainage
● Reduce engineering workload
● Reduce slope erosion
● Cannot replant vegetation
● Need catchment area/ditch
● Higher maintenance costs
Anchor installation
A dense matrix of soil or rock anchors and special anchor plates is used to anchoring the net on the slope, and the rock net is fixed on the slope with rock anchors. Rock anchors are made by inserting steel rods into grouted small-diameter holes that are drilled to a specific depth in the rock. The depth and capacity of the anchor depending on the rock type and system design. The most important material parameters to consider when designing are tensile strength and puncture strength.
The slope protection netting of anchor installation has the following characteristics
● The slope is not eroded (the dangerous process stops)
● Can revegetate
● Free drainage
● No catchment area required
● Low maintenance
● Need higher engineering effort
● Due to the increase in the number of anchors, the installation cost is higher
● Higher material cost
Slope protection netting is installed to stabilization the steep weathered slope, instead of concrete and shotcrete structures.
